Making a relationship loving and successful can be a challenge for some men.  Let’s face it: men are not generally encouraged in this culture to show vulnerability and express sensitivity.  This presents a problem in committed relationship, because in order to achieve greater intimacy, partners need to express deeper emotions; they need to reveal a deeper side of themselves.  Knowing when and how to express feelings, which will ultimately lead to more understanding and closeness in one’s relationship, is called “emotional intelligence”.

The degree to which we learn emotional intelligence is dictated by our families of origin, and to a large extent, for men, by the behavior of their male role models and friends.  Because many men often have not been encouraged in this way, I find that I am able to make it safe for male clients to express deeper feelings, sometimes for the first time.

My years of training and experience allow me to gently help men to open to a softer side of themselves which allows them to connect with that side of their partner.  This emotional connection is the life blood of happy and long-lasting relationships; men who know how to sensitively get to the   “heart of the matter” and reveal their deeper feelings will have the best chances for maintaining overall emotional harmony with their partner over time.
