An affair which is revealed in a committed relationship or marriage can be a very traumatic and painful event. Feelings of shame, guilt, and rage are common and natural. Often both partners will wonder if they can regain the trust and safety needed for their relationship to continue.

I have worked extensively with affair couples and I know that, with guidance, healing is possible over time. However, both partners need to commit to a process of expressing charged and difficult feelings and making authentic and appropriate amends. I help partners navigate the traumatic symptoms of betrayal and I give them an opportunity to repair their relationship if they so choose. Depending on the depth of wounding, the recovery process can be uneven and gradual, but motivated partners can often use the painful experience of betrayal to bring their relationship to a deeper level of communication, commitment, and understanding.
